Tuloksellisempaan tiedonhankintatutkimukseen: prosessianalyysi tiedontarpeiden ja tiedonhankinnan tutkimuksessa [Towards more effective information seeking studies: process-analysis in the service of research of information needs and information seeking].

  • Abstract
A process-analysis method developed for the study of information needs and information seeking is presented here. The method was tested in a study carried out in the city secretarial office of Pori in the summer 1990. Genuine information seeking processes caused by tasks to be performed were described using work sheets constructed for this purpose. Two classifications were adopted for the analysis of the collected material, one for analysing the tasks and another for the analysis of the information required for solving the task. This method reveals the relationships between different information seeking phenomena. Knowledge of these relationships is a precondition to the planning of an effective information system in an organization.
